My Vegan Journey at a glance…

When I started my journey of a plant based diet, there were and still are many questions people have for me. To give an overview of what my life entails as a vegan, I will start with a little history of how I became a vegan. In 2008, I started my plant based journey. Actually, for about two weeks I was vegan. I only ate fruit and veggie salads. In addition, I started this plant based journey to find myself and receive a revelation. I never thought I would receive that and more. After two weeks of only fruits and vegetables, I received a divine insight to not eat meat any longer. As a result, I never ate meat again. At this point, I incorporated cheese, eggs, and occasional dairy ice cream in my diet. As time progressed, I stopped eggs and cheese. Currently, I do not eat any animal products. I have been vegan for almost 21/2 years now. It is an amazing journey.  Consequently, I have reaped benefits of managing my weight, cholesterol levels are within a normal range, and I have a great deal of energy to keep up with my 18 month old son.  With this in mind, my definition of veganism is someone who does not consume animals including dairy and eggs or wear animal products. Also, I think I should give another definition of veganism. There are several ways people have defined veganism, but I will use The Vegan Society definition of veganism  which states:

A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

In 1944, The Vegan Society was formed by Donald Watson. Also, he coined the term vegan since he considered himself to be a non dairy vegetarian.

Thrive Market sells your favorite organic and non-gmo brands for up to 50% off retail.

To conclude, veganism has been a great change to my life. I went from eating meat all my life to stop eating meat after 24 years of my life. Being vegan has given me great insight about myself, animals, and the world at large.
